The Carlisle (originally the Sutherland II) is a knightmare frame utilized by the Britannian Empire in Code Geass Megiddo.

Appearance[]

The Gracchus from Akito the Exiled. The two major design changes are the removal of the extendable arms and the shoulder cape.

Description[]

Initially meant as a direct successor to the fifth generation Sutherland, the Sutherland II was not actually a true Knightmare unit at first, but rather a "conversion kit" for already existing Sutherland units. Instead of producing entirely new Knightmare Frames, the already present Sutherlands would be retrofitted with a line of new parts and mechanics as well as have their internal systems overhauled, effectively turning them into sixth-generation Knightmares overnight. Ironically this proved to be more expensive than developing a new Knightmare type to replace the Sutherlands with, and so a proper Sutherland II (later redesignated Carlisle) was produced and fielded.

As a next-generation machine, the Carlisle emphasizes the traits of its predecessor, being fast and highly nimble, as well as geared toward fighting other Knightmare Frames. Though otherwise as "basic" as its precursor, one noteworthy feature is that the Carlisle forgoes traditional quad-eye camera and Factsphere sensor for a hybrid visor sensor/camera, granting it superior visual and data accumulation power over preceding Knightmare types. Likewise, the Carlisle comes equipped with a rapier blade for greater melee capability.

History[]

Though considered an admirable attempt toward a true next-generation Knightmare Frame, neither the Sutherland II conversion kit nor the Carlisle itself would be acquired by the Imperial forces. The former due to cost-effectiveness and the latter because, while the Carlisle was superior to the Sutherland (and the corresponding Gloucester) in every way - to the point of being on par with later generation Knightmares in raw performance - it did little to capitalize on the limitations of the fifth generation, being little more than a "dressed up Sutherland with delusions of grandeur". As a result, the single Carlisle prototype would eventually be mothballed at Pearl Harbor while further sixth-generation Knightmares took more "exotic" forms.

Eventually, however, the Carlisle would have a chance to prove its worth. In 2025, the resurgent Order of the Black Knights would stage an attack on Pearl, assault forces consisting entirely of Knightmares. During this attack, an unknown devicer would take the Carlisle out and do battle with the Black Knights with it, eventually engaging Major Rai Sumeragi and his Aoren. Unfortunately between the Aoren's superior performance and Major Sumeragi's superior piloting, the Carlisle would ultimately prove no match for either and subsequently be laid to waste with so many others as the fighting went on.
