Kanji Kyōshigaki (京シガキ漢字, Kyō shigaki Kanji), with the the Britannian name of Kenjie Monaco (モナコケンジ, Monako Kenji), 17 years old (18 at R2), is one of the main characters of Code Geass: Defenders of Britannia. He is voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama in the Japanese dub with Alejandro Saab doing his voice for the English dub.

Appearance[]

Kanji is a young man with darkish pink hair and light blue eyes. He is rather tall, being slightly shorter than Suzaku. Like most characters in the series, he also is rather skinny, belying his extreme physical prowess. In the first season, he is mostly seen as a shy, calm and relaxed person. However, after the death of his parents from the hands of Princess Euphemia, his eyes are mostly seen to be always focused and always processing (stated by Suzaku) and has a mouth that is typically straight, that completely lost its expression after losing his parents(stated by Shirley), this is due to his depression, showing the impact of the death of his parents to him and with him questioning the ways of Britannia.

In the first season, he is usually clothed in a white knightmare frame battle suit when he is presented as a Britannian Soldier or the Ashford Academy uniform, complete with a pair of glasses and a messy hairdo, and. He is also seen a soldier's uniform on separate occasions. However, in the second, he often wears regal clothing with a long maroon cloak of the Knights of the Round. He has also been wearing a Black Knights uniform and flightsuit right after revealing his true identity infront of Schneizel and the rest of the Knights of the Round before becoming one half of the Knights of Zero where he was given a more decorated and ornamented knightmare battle suit than his previous suits.

Personality[]

Based from the stories of Kallen about their childhood, Kanji was a friendly and courageous person. Where they mostly spent time together until the time when Kallen was getting bullied and Kanji appeared to fight them.

After Japan was conquered and returning to Britannia, Kanji had developed a split personality of his own to hide his identity as a soldier. He dedicated his cause to make his father's wishes of him becoming a member of the Knights of the Round into reality and to live a free life as a student at the same time in a way that he won't become suspicious by those who recognize him from his past life, due to Kallen being present, which may break his father's warning to him and his brother, Dante. Like Suzaku, Kanji held a more positive outlook on Britannia, believing that it could be changed for the better if done right. He also held a strong sense of loyalty, never questioning the wishes of his father and the orders of his superiors. Despite that, he has shown his willingness to betray Britannia if he witnesses an act of cruelty by his superiors to the Japanese without a rightful reason. Kanji also has the intellect to be prepared for the consequences that may come from his actions, having the ultimate goal of having a peaceful nation where both the Japanese and the Britannians will have equality towards one another.

After the death of both his parents from the hands of Princess Euphemia, Kanji became depressed and began questioning the ways of the Britannians, which developed his firm resolve to find out who Zero is and, by extension, Lelouch. He considered to serve Zero in a way for him to see what the other side of the coin holds, where he is comparing what the two sides' true objectives are. Kanji was always curious of what Zero's plans hold, because of this, he decided to contact Ohgi of him resurfacing to serve the Black Knights where the Kyoto Group, a former and classified member of the group, are currently a member of. Later, Kanji would continue to make his father's wishes into reality by continuing his quest of serving Britannia with the goal to become a Knight Of The Round, a goal that his father has never achieved despite having very high praise from the Emperor as one of his elite soldiers, so that he could make his dream come true by transforming Area 11 into a place his family can live peacefully.

After Zero was exposed as Lelouch, Kanji was never actually surprised, to him being able to study Lelouch carefully with his constant disappearance, where he knew what cards to put up that shows Lelouch constantly revealing him as Zero. Unlike Suzaku, Kanji had a complete understanding and acknowledging Lelouch's past actions, knowing that he's been doing these actions for the sake of Nunally and everyone that are affected by the Emperor's ruling, until it was found out that Euphemia was under the influence with the Geass while the massacre occurred that left him in a pool of decisions. This struggle was shown to have been under control during the time he was tasked by the Emperor to meet with Lord Kimmel (now Rolo Lamperouge) and escort him in with the arrival of Lelouch (Julius Kingsley) and his old friend Suzaku, who is now the Knight of Seven; as one of his first duties as the newly promoted Knight of Thirteen. During this time, Kanji had a more serious personality and seemed to have studied about the way of engineering Knightmares for himself, the abilities of the Geass and trained more in his abilities in fighting, not only by Knightmare but also in hand-to-hand combat. He was not, however, willing to battle or even follow orders if they rooted from selfish acts. Suzaku was willing to kill anybody who are willing to do things in their power for their selfishness, which was shown during the chess battle against Zero and Schneizel where he threatened to fire the gun at Schneizel if he is willing to order him to kill Zero. After Lelouch started to build trust around him, he was gifted by Lelouch's Geass, knowing that he will use it for the greater good and not from selfishnness, the ability of known as the Cerebral Storm, where he has the ability to make a quick conclusion/ plan to finish a specific task that is seen by his eyes.

After the destruction of the Tokyo Settlement due to the F.L.E.I.J.A. that caused the death of approximately 25 million people, Kanji finally decided that he would fake his death and join the Black Knights. He then secretly had a meeting with Ohgi revealing that his plan was to return as a former member of the Kyoto Group. He then abandons his role as the Knight of Thirteen. This saddens Bismark, the Knight of One, along with Suzaku's disappearance, who he also claimed as the brain and the "Hannibal" of the Knights of the Round, due to him being able to predict the future by planning the present, even in accident. This ultimately leads to him planning on helping Suzaku to become the Knight of One, knowing the deal he made with Schneizel, as a way he can finally make the wishes of the people he created bonds with, with the feeling of emptiness after managing to make his father's wishes come true, protecting the one he loves the most, Kallen, and the person who was the reason he managed to defend himself through the years, Ohgi.

Since he, Suzaku and Lelouch had lost the ones they loved and had sullied their hands with the blood of thousands, Suzaku and Kanji allied with Lelouch, but his experience in the thought realm with Lelouch, Suzaku and C.C had him deeply thinking, that one side doesn't matter if the other is suffering. He understands that choosing a side between Britannia and Japan would have to be put aside for a peaceful future by balancing their rights and their way of life, and became a participant of the Zero Requiem along with Suzaku and Lelouch. Lelouch describes him of a brain that never stops processing and has the will to fight for what he believes is right, as he manages to tweak Lelouch's Geass command to 'Predict' into an advantage where he additionally had the ability to have the sense of trouble ahead of a short time. When he witnessed the farewell kiss of Lelouch and Kallen from a distance, it saddened him which led to his ability accidentally activating, making him overthink and believed that Kallen was only saying that she loves him for Kanji to simply express her gratefulness for his efforts, which resulted to him becoming filled with anger and a clouded psyche. This also became an advantage to the reappearance of his oldest brother, Eskurante, who managed to quickly brainwash him, into him thinking that Kallen's love was only a fluke and senseless hope he developed and that he was weakened by the bond he made with Lelouch for him to avenge their parents, who were actually killed by Zero. He then managed to align himself with his brother that led to the resurfacing of "Tyrant: Ragnarok". He was soon defeated by Suzaku when his anger and his self-control got him into a mental struggle. He was soon attended by Kallen when he was falling from the Ark Fleet of Eskurante. Where the two soon managed to talk heart-to-heart about their relationship and soon strengthened when C.C. managed to appear and got the two within the memories of the past that showed how their bond was very strong. As the end of the incident with Eskurante, Nunnally was soon revealed to be alove. He, along with Suzaku, became shocked with Lelouch with this and she declares all of them as her enemies. Afterwards, he shows a vicious dedication to the completion of the Zero Requiem, and takes the responsibility of being 'Lelouch's Architect' where he is going to become the one who plans and makes sure that the Zero Requiem will be completed in the way Lelouch proposed it to be. He manages to help Suzaku in faking his death with his battle with Kallen, where he managed to make use of the new ability he has and uses it as part of the Zero Requiem. As Kallen was captive, Kanji managed to explain everything to Kallen about the Zero Requiem and what the truth of Lelouch's plans are. After Suzaku reappeared under the guise of Zero, Kanji managed to plan a battle against Suzaku where the people will see that Zero will be the new hero that Japan has, Kanji managed to get stabbed then soon after, Suzaku managed to stab Lelouch. With him being wounded and losing the sight of the crowd, he manages to free Kallen then collapses after as Lelouch was saying his final words with Suzaku. Suzaku then accepts the Geass, on behalf of Kanji, who was also gifted with the ability he currently wields, though crying as his friend and as the one who set him free from the chains that are holding him from within that hides his true self. Later, he is shown in his motorcycle, coated with the Black Knights jacket, where he is watching the sun from above as the F.L.E.I.J.A and the Damocles are being dissolved and destroyed. He then soon leaves in his motorcycle. In the end, he was seen to be close to Kallen, presumably waiting for her. Kallen had the feeling of doubt of this because of the sins she has done within their relationship. Kanji then requested to give her a ride to Ashford Academy as he was also thinking of continuing to study. He then gives a simple smile that gave Kallen the relief that their relationship is still intact and managed to become stronger.

Character Outline[]

Kanji is the son of the Emperor’s greatest and loyal soldier, Reigm Kyoshigaki. His true identity as a Japanese was kept a secret from the public due to the possibility it will get him Exiled from Britannia, which his father wanted to avoid. Kanji met Lelouch Lamperouge and his sister Nunnally when they moved to Ashford Academy, were they stayed hidden, when his father told the story about Marianne and was one of her loyal guards. This then led to him having the duty to look after her two children, as a request made by his father for the sake of Marianne, which he honorably accepted. At first, Kanji had a short rivalry with Lelouch because of his skills and abilities in chess and how he mostly loses to him everytime they battle. As time passed by, however, he came to know Lelouch better, and they soon became good friends, where he soon met Nunnally and saw the innocence in her and believed that she never deserved what she’s been through. With the trust he has built with them, he revealed to Lelouch that he is a soldier and is willing to protect them at all cost, even willing to turn against Britannia for it Back when Britannia began its invasion of Japan, a young Kanji was separated from his closest friend and then love interest, Kallen because of his father wanting to evacuate his family to the Chinese Federation for their safety while Japan is being taken over. Unable to change his father's decision, Kanji started a group with fellow young Japanese who are willing to fight for their falling nation, which also included his cousin, Akito Hyuga, by working behind the shadows while he is being put in military training due to his father’s wishes in which he managed to accomplish after 5 years. Even with the success of his military training and becoming a soldier, he wanted to continue his studies, his father then solemnly accepts hos wish with the condition that he will balance his military work and his studies, which he understood. With the thought of not wanting anyone to discover his true identity and his military background, Kanji changed his appearance and personality and became a more timid person, in which he decided to wear a pair of glasses and changed the look of his hair. As he returned back to Japan, now being taken over by Britannia and now know as Area 11, his name was also changed into Kenjie Monaco, by using the middle name of their family in which he got from his Britannian Grandmother as his last name, for the reason of them wanting to hide their history as Japanese citizens for them to fit in and be able to enter Britannia. It also inspires Kanji's belief that one side from a fallen nation into a brand new one cause caused others to suffer while those with high power prospered, where he believed that power and rights need to be balanced, that one side of the coin shouldn’t be judged from what we believe is right but know what the other side has, if its also positive or that we’re seeing it from a reverse perspective. However, after Suzaku fired the F.L.E.I.J.A. warhead under the command of Lelouch's Geass, he decided that if balance can’t be achieved by the two sides being one, he will have to do what he believe is right to bring this balance himself by his own hands, even if the desired results may be reversed onto him and even lead to his own death, breaking the wish of his father by choosing over the ones that carried him through and the one he loves by reinstating with the Kyoto Group and joining the Black Knights, and killing people just to make true his objectives and ideals. Despite that fact, Kanji still showed to be interested in achieving a world where everyone can live happy and have a tomorrow, as seen in the last episode, when it is shown that all the acts of him, Lelouch and Suzaku were to achieve that world.

Character History[]

First Archive[]

Kanji makes his first appearance in the beginning of the first stage of the archives as a child (left unnamed in the prologue chapter) with Kallen running across a hillside when they suddenly stumbled and  discovered the Aircrafts up in the sky where Britannia is about to take on Japan for the battle of supremacy for the nation. Kanji's father, Reigm then takes Kanji while Kallen tries to run for him but unfortunately fell down and believed that it was their last time being together.

In a side chapter, Kanji and his entire family were transported to the Chinese Federation with the directive of Reigm as their entire family, excluding Reigm, were recorded as Japanese citizens and were in the verge of being exiled. After a few months, and with Britannia completely taking over Japan, Reigm finalized his family's records and managed to make his entire family as Britannian Citizens with their names also being changed for them to fit in, this led to Kanji being renamed as "Kenjie Monaco". With this, they would return back to Japan, which is now Area 11, to try and start a new life, which is something Kanji took literally and making him change his entire appearance and mode of acting.

After a few years, Kanji is later introduced with Lelouch Lamperouge and Rivalz, where Lelouch is a about to gamble by the game of Chess as Kenjie was also studying Lelouch's every move. As they were leaving, they were disturbed when Britannian Soldiers were sent to retrieve the poison gas stolen by the Japanese Resistance. Lelouch then soon leaves and Kenjie would uncharacteristically follow him, leaving Rivalz confused. Kenjie would then later appear and has made his way by sneaking through a compartment under the truck (from the "Code: Kanji archives"). Afterwards, When Nagata opens the capsule, Kenjie quickly ducked down in the hidden compartment of the truck and cover his nose from what he believed was the poisonous gas. The capsule then opens, and instead of gas, a restrained C.C. appears. Before Suzaku and Lelouch can get answers, Kenjie witnesses him and Suzaku's superiors come, telling Suzaku not to question his briefing and to shoot the "terrorist", Lelouch. When Suzaku refuses, he is promptly shot in the back. However, the bullet is stopped by a broken pocket watch belonging to his deceased father.

Kenjie, hiding in the shadows then passes out from the gas coming out from the ventilation he was near at that was releasing contaminated solutions.

After Lelouch managed to see him while he was passed out, he was then carried back to Ashford Academy after he was found by Rivalz, where Kenjie was left in an abandoned railroad by Lelouch and was seen when Rivalz managed to pass through said railroad. They then managed to reach the meeting with the school council, where he was still drowsy and was only awakened by Milly when he was startled by her when she was optimistically speaking with exclamation in her voice. As he was strolling back to his class, he discovers a student named Kallen Stadtfeld, which left Kenjie looking at her familiarly and made him speculate if she is his old friend that he lost after leaving Japan. When Lelouch and Kallen were seen having a conversation, he came across what seemed to be a jealous Shirley due to him knowing her feelings for Lelouch. He then saw Kallen and managed to conclude the source of Shirley's jealousy. He was later seen with the student council having a drink and witnessed Kallen being sabotaged by Shirley. Right after Kallen 's conversation with Lelouch inside the shower room, He was seen outside the room and managed to clean her uniform in a short period of time. He then gave up her uniform and even gave her extra towels to help her to quickly dry out, communicating with her in a shy and very polite manner, which left Kallen flattered.

After he found out that Suzaku found himself under arrest for the murder of Prince Clovis; though Lelouch was in fact responsible for this, the military then needs a scapegoat since they actually have no idea who was responsible for the murder. In this point, Kenjie began to surge through the individual he used to be and began a small change in thinking and looks to show shades of his former self.

Lelouch would rescue Suzaku from his impending execution by assuming the identity of Zero and taking credit for Clovis' murder, forcing the military to acquit Suzaku due to lack of evidence, as soon as Ohgi and Kallen saw they may have been put into a bad position, A Knightmare which was with the scapegoat from the very beginning turned position and defended the two and Zero, evening the playing field. He then helped the two escape when gunfire was made. Soon after, he reveals himself as "Wesker", a masked vigilante working for the Kyoto Group after Kallen asked who he is. He then quickly escapes without uttering another word.

While being behind the scenes and spending most of his time with Lloyd and Cécile, Suzaku was seen ending up intervening in an internal [[pureblood]] struggle, in which Kenjie (who is also a Honorary Britannian and a soldier like Suzaku) voluteered to help his friend out and was soon revealed to be the pilot of the newly introduced Knightmare frame knwon as Kassius, which was mostly similar to the Lancelot by program only having a few tweaks implanted from the program created by his older brother, Dante Octaves Monaco. He then managed to meet Euphemia li Britannia, the Third Princess of Britannia after said encounter.

From this point on, Suzaku remained the pilot of the Lancelot. He is enrolled into Ashford Academy on Euphemia's suggestion, though he is at first mistreated by other students in events such as how somebody spray paints "Go Back To Your Ghetto, Eleven!" on his shirt which led to Kenjie being vulnerable to retaliate where he even got into a fight with 5 students and managed to knock them off quickly with his experience in hand-to-hand combat, which he didn't expect would get out of hand. He would then use restrain on them to make them forget about the confrontation when they eventually wake up. Even with the belief that no one else was around to see the scene that happened, Milly witnessed the entire fiasco and was hiding behind a tree all along, where she seemed very surprised and, unceremoniously, impressed with what Kenjie just pulled off.

He is later seen aiding Nunnally while Suzaku was being confronted by Lelouch and later met up with them at the clubhouse. Suzaku and Kenjie would have a conversation while leaving the clubhouse where Suzaku would question Kenjie was hiding his true identity and why he won't reveal his true personality, due to him being with Kanji while the war on Britannia was still occuring. Kanji would later explain that it may lead to many people, especially former soldiers, discovering who he really is, which may lead to his family being exiled and his father losing his credibility in the eyes of the public, which was something Reigm still prioritizes till this day. He also explained about his promise of looking for his old friend and reuniting with her, with him strongly accepting the notion that she could possibly be alive and may be lurking around Britannia.

In another side chapter, Kenjie and Suzaku would have a conversation about their past together and the memories they shared, which led to the chapter focusing on a flashback that showed their time together training under the guidance of Tohdoh and the obeservasion of Genbu and Reigm. Suzaku and Kanji would be seen fighting with kendos, which led to Kanji losing with Suzaku exceeding more experience in training. Suzaku would then help him out as he knew he was in the brink of being defeated. Unfortunately, Reigm didn't seemed pleased and would be disappointed with the outcome. Because of this, Kenjie would be pushed to a more physical training by his father, which led to him experiencing back to back injuries during training. As these training would pass, the punishment would take a toll on Kenjie where he would plan to rebel on his family. As he would make his decision final, Suzaku would appear to aid him. Suzaku would see all of the bandages Kenjie was sporting and Kenjie would explain what has been happening with him for the past month and what he has been planning to do. Suzaku would then try and ease up his struggling friend and would explain the other side of his uncompromising plans. This would leave Kenjie silent, remembering the priorities of his late mother as the one keeping their comfort and love for one another. Kenjie would then make his decision final and replace his mother as the one who keeps the peace of their family. Kenjie would continue to train and improve his craft by training in a cruiser-weight style of fighting. After a few weeks, Suzaku and Kenjie would spar once again, with the conclusion being different. The chapter would soon skip to the day Nunnally and Lelouch would come to Japan and meet with Suzaku and Kenjie.

Returning to the present, Arthur, a stray cat, would appear and is later chased throughout the school grounds by the entire student body after wandering into the Lamperouge residence and escaping with Lelouch 's Zero mask. Milly announces that the one who catches the cat will get a kiss from any member of the Student Council. Suzaku and Lelouch are the ones who get the cat, and they receive a kiss on the cheek from Nunnally. As a result of this, Suzaku receives a warm welcome from the Student Council and the rest of the student body that left Kenjie smiling in the background with the feeling of gratefulness for how Suzaku's life has quickly turned to a brighter light. The Student Council then adopts Arthur and builds a cat house in the council room.

Kenjie, along with the rest of the student body, watches Prince Clovis' funeral live. During the funeral, the [[Emperor of Britannia]] makes a speech on the virtues of inequality and the social battle for evolution and betterment. Kenjie would unceremoniously leave the room due to his varying views as both a Britannian and a Japanese. Kenjie would begin to have a conflict with him knowing that there are Japanese who are still suffering despite the words being said by the Emperor himself and that nothing is actually happening. In this situation, Kenjie would slowly become aware of what is happening around him.

When Kallen was sent in an operation by the Black Knights, Ohgi would contact someone about her mission, this would be revealed to be Wesker, who appeared at the scene right after Kallen saw her drugged mother. He would then assist them by fending off the Britannian Police and guiding them to the exit he has made as an entrance. After Kallen and her mother managed to escape, Wesker would quickly flee without having any form of interaction with them.

After this encounter, Kenjie would later be seen in his working desk thinking and investigating all that has happened in the recent year concerning major catastrophes that were concerning the Elevens. After studying all of that happened, he would begin to have doubts on what his father actually believed in and that things have changed ever since Britannia took over. But would once again become conflicted due to his father's wishes for him to become a member of the Knights of the Round and prioritizing them as one of his primary goals.

In the chapter, His rank within the military would later be revealed and is initially ranked as Private, but he is promoted to Warrant Officer by Cornelia when she first arrived in Japan right after Suzaku, this even leaves Cornelia would start to look at Kenjie as a person she once cherished in the past, with her even asking who he really is before the promotion ceremony. Kenjie would then answer by saying his own name, who lived a generic Britannian life.

When Nunnally is kidnapped by Mao, Kanji would help Lelouch and Suzaku on rescuing her when they managed to meet with him along the way. When they find Nunnally, they also find a bomb above her that is ready to detonate. Lelouch comes up with a plan that would eventually lead to Kenjie and Suzaku being able to defuse the bomb, when Kenjie managed to decode the bomb to simply disable it and would later come to Lelouch's aid. Kenjie would warn Suzaku beforehand about coming closer to Mao, knowing that he has a trap planned for him but would eventually end up being ignored when Suzaku approached Mao to arrest him. Mao then uses his Geass at Suzaku and reveals the fact that Suzaku was the one who killed his own father, Genbu Kururugi. With Kenjie having no regrets, he tried to attack Mao but soon ended up being knocked out of consciousness by using his Geass. After this, Lelouch uses his Geass to permanently silence Mao, who is then killed by C.C. Afterwards, Lelouch takes advantage of this and sways Suzaku and Kenjie to protect Nunnally. Right after Suzaku is informed that Cornelia changed the executioner for Kyoshiro Tohdoh to him, which made him hesitate. As Lloyd is signing papers, the Black Knights attempt a rescue mission. Kenjie comes with the Kassius and engages in a battle with Nagisa and the Four Holy Swords, with the feeling of regret and didn't fight seriously, while Suzaku fights Tohdoh. As he is overwhelmed, him and Suzaku were forced to use the Harken Boosters to repel the Black Knights. In which Nagisa managed to sense that he wasnt fighting seriously, with Kenjie barely even landing offensive attacks, Nagisa then became more aggressive, with her wanting to make Kenjie fight seriously. He then managed to get his Knightmare incredibly damaged and soon retreated due to Suzaku not being able to continue fighting as his Landspinner is destroyed where he then ran to Suzaku evacuating him from the battlefield which allowed Nagisa, along with the Black Knights, to retreat with Tohdoh.

Suzaku is soon appointed as Euphemia's personal Knight, granting him the rank of Major, after a televised battle with the Black Knights makes his occupation public knowledge with Kenjie rejecting the offer to also be her Knight, due to him hiding the truth about his identity and his military background that were being hindered if it gets media attention. During the battle on [[Shikine Island]], Kenjie stayed at the Knightmare station where he was reprogramming his Knightmare by breaking its database. He was soon seen by Kallen, who was willing to take down the Knightmares that arent being used for them to not be able to send reinforcements. Kenjie then lied that he was only curious of what the Knightmare database is and that he's doing it for research when Kallen asked why he was there in the first place. As Kallen was willing to escape Kenjie from the battlefield due to her having complete trust for him, Kenjie took the advantage to take down Kallen and pin her to the ground by putting her in an armbar, where he then explained to Kallen who he is after he removes his glasses, saying that there are things that he wants to spill out to her but cannot for the reason that he doesn't want to put her in trouble, in which Kallen thought that he was lying again. He then slowly released the armbar but Kallen then took advantage of this to try and beat Kenjie up, releasing her anger towards him in which Kenjie avoided defensively without hurting her. When she managed to land a punch at him, putting him down. Kallen stopped with her believing his words. In which then Kenjie asked Kallen to leave as soldiers may be coming back in which Kallen does. Kanji then shoots himself in his right shoulder, making it look like that Kallen managed to escape by injuring him. As Suzaku and Princess Euphemia were still missing, Kenjie led the search and rescue operation for them but never made progress for a whole day. After a day, They managed to find the two where Kallen and Euphemia were held as hostages but was soon settled when the two sides traded where Suzaku and Euphemia were rescued but Suzaku is then taken into custody due to insubordination.

Right after the rescue, It is revealed that Zero has alligned himself with Princess Euphemia, with the agreement of Suzaku. During this time, Kenjie left his duties as a soldier and spent time with his family, knowing that he won't be needed for a while with the alliance of Suzaku and Zero being enough to put Britannia in safe hands. Him and his family were later seen at the Special Administrative Zone, where he believed that the day that he and his father have been waiting for has come ever since Japan became Area 11, and that is equality between the Japanese and the Britannians. Due to the Geass being cast at Euphemia with the order to kill the Japanese, which Lelouch was only joking about, Kenjie's parents were killed by her ,due to them being a shield for Kenjie, along with many of the Japanese. As his parents died in his arms, his father uttered that Kenjie must achieve the peace between the two sides himself and for the wishes of his family to come true. With the death of his parents, Kenjie screamed out of sadness and anger. He then reached for a pistol and shot Euphie in the shoulder by bending the direction of the gunshot. He then avoids gunfire by running to one of the exits of the stadium.

After the massacre that occurred, Kenjie is seen in a hospital assisting injured Japanese. He was then seen sitting and seemed depressed with a mind clouded with thoughts and doubts. As soon as he managed to get home, he locked himself in a room of what used to be the bedroom of his parents for a few days. As he managed to return at Ashford Academy, he was only a shadow of his former self, mostly revealing his true personality. With Suzaku managing to noticing his recent change, he confronted him, wanting to know if he's okay. Kenjie then angrily uttered that he doesn't care about what Suzaku believes anymore, and that he will do anything for the justice of his parents. With Suzaku wanting to find and kill Zero, Kenjie revealed that he will come along in finding him but with the warning that if he tried to kill Zero, he wouldn't think twice or hesitate in killing Suzaku, and that Euphie's sins will be put to Suzaku himself. In which he leaves silently with only a nod as an answer.

After he has decided to fight for Japan and Britannia, as his father's wishes, he then contacted Ohgi as a first step right before their attack at Ashford Academy. He then went to an abandoned base where his old Knightmre was located. He soon met with Rakshata, where his Knightmare was reinforced. As Ohgi noticed Kallen following Zero, He was contacted by Ohgi where he sent the Coordinates of Kallen's Guren, which Kanji followed after his Knightmare was put back into optimal. As he met up with Kallen, he tried to communicate with her by voice connect. With Kallen thinking that he is a treat trying to stop her, she thought of engage at him but was stopped when Ohgi revealed that Kenjie Monaco's true identity is her childhood friend and love interest, Kanji Kyōshigaki by showing the display of Kanji's documents that were kept as classified as he faked his death as Kanji Kyōshigaki. This led to Kallen being filled with the feeling of joy but Kanji never uttered a word and continued to escort her to Zero, due to Kanji being able to put a tracker at Suzaku's Lancelot before he left the Britannian base. They witness Zero's confrontation with Suzaku and learns about his true identity, the truth about the massacre of SAZ, and his Geass power. When the battle between Suzaku and Lelouch began, Kallen escaped with Kanji, caring more about Kanji's safety rather than aiding Lelouch to deal with Suzaku. Right after escaping, Him and Kallen rested at a seaside where the two would finally talk. Kallen with alot of questions in her head, asked why he didn't tell her in the first place of who he really is. Kanji then explained to her about the wishes of her father and his family including their safety, which filled Kallen in and understood his reasons. The two promised each other that to keep what they witnessed for themselves in which Kallen agreed to. The chapter ended with the two side hugging and Kallen laying her head down on Kanji's shoulder and Kallen even uttering that she won't let anything seperate them again.

Second Archive: R2[]

In the second chapter, it was revealed that Kallen kept Kanji from captivity for his own safety where he stayed at the Stadtfeld residence for a while. Kanji asked Kallen for him to be left behind and that he will return when he has the advantage to do so, and that he won't let anything happen to her. Soon, he was found by Britannian soldiers where he was sent to the Emperor right after, as he was believed to have assisted Suzaku on taking down Lelouch due to Suzaku wanting to give the favor for Kanji's assistance ever since they began fighting together before he left Britannia with Julius Kingsley. He was then soon promoted as Knight of Thirteen, because of the Emperor managing to give him advanced training that were once presented to his father and his brother (who is soon revealed to be Eskurante) as he has complete trust on his father and his capabilities. He even managed to escape with the truth that he has been allied with the Black Knights ever since they were sent to the Chinese Federation. He also continued studying at Ashford Academy, still proceeing to hide his true identity by being who Kenjie Monaco is.

He was seen at Babel Tower coming along with Rolo and Lelouch, who are just about to enter the tower. They then bumped into Kallen, Kanji's girlfriend at the time after managing to get together secretly, who was disguised as a bunnysuit-wearing prostitute/waitress. As she failed to put a tracking device at Lelouch, She was caught by the Mafia boss and then started pulling her by her hair, that angered Kanji. Lelouch then played a game of chess with the mafia boss out of generosity and ends up winning. As C.C. invades the tower, Kanji assisted Kallen as she reveals herself and defeats all of the mafia furiously with ease. He then gets seperated with them as he went to get his mask and his Knightmare that was being dropped down by the Black Knights and assisted Kallen along the way. After their mission was finished, Kanji picked Kallen up in his motorcycle and the two then shared a conversation about their relationship and if Kallen was ok after the mission.

Kanji, who is later revealed to actually be Sayoko, due to her accepting her former student's request to appear at E.U. as Kanji and her were making a switch at their planned rendezvous point while he returns to Area 11, and the rest of the Knights of the Round watch as Zero announces that he will continue his plans to create the United States of Japan. He was later seen when Lelouch attempts to kidnap Nunnally as she is being brought to Area 11 where he and Suzaku step in to rescue her, ironically fulfilling the purpose Lelouch had originally envisioned for. After Nunnally's arrival, Kenjie was helping the student council at the garden and Suzaku was later seen after due to Suzaku wondering if Lelouch did lose his memories and if he didn't, where Kanji slowly notices this happening and was curious of Suzaku's way of acting.

He and Suzaku then lead the Britannian Navy to wipe out the Black Knights to ensure that Nunnally's plans of re-establishing the Special Administrative Zone of Japan will not be dismantled, but were completely surprised when the whole Navy is wiped out. In a surprising twist, Zero announces that he will accept Nunnally's offer in exchange for exile. This is revealed to be a clever ruse when Zero has all one million Elevens participating dress exactly like him, as he was going under the crowd of Zeros, he was put into gunpoint by one of the Elevens, where Kallen then intervenes, saving him in the process. Suzaku was left no choice but to exile the entire group to prevent another massacre. Standing on an empty stage, Suzaku realizes that Zero must know him very well, having banked on the fact that Suzaku wouldn't allow a massacre to take place because that may lead to Kanji retaliating again.

Kanji is soon deployed to the Chinese Federation's capital along with the other Knights of the Round, where the First Prince of Britannia and the Empress Tianzi are to be wed. Kanji then stood between Schneizel and Zero as they played chess where he began to play as peacekeeper of the two sides, and reminded Zero, and even threatening Schneizel that if a member of one side engages, he won't hesitate to arrest or kill. Later, Zero kidnaps the Empress during the ceremony. Britannia's aid is requested in recovering Tianzi, and Suzaku personally has Kallen Kozuki transferred into Britannian custody before heading into the battle. Lelouch, who had became closer to her, was angered seeing it as Suzaku's way of taking everything he can from him. As Kanji was leaving the premises, he was confronted by Gino who believed that he did was foolish with Kanji stating that he doesn't know what he wants from the way he acts and that he sees him only as a quiet entity, not knowing how dangerous he is. He met with Suzaku afterwards, and requested to stay by Kallen's side as she is kept captive, which Suzaku then accepts in the condition that he won't try to set her free from captivity. Which Kanji then understood, due to the fact he needs to continue his duties as the Knight of Thirteen.

As the Cupid Day event was happening, Kanji operated a laptop where he was seen to be putting location points, soon revealed at Ashford Academy helping Sayoko, as Lelouch, locate the people that may stop her. Kallen then managed to communicate with him with the earpiece he put inside the dress, where she asked how Ashford Academy was as she haven't seen it for almost a year, in which he answered that it is still the same and that there's an even currently happening there called Cupid Day. In which Kallen answered that if she participated, she wouldn't pick anyone else but Kanji as her partner, which made Kanji stop typing and then layed his hand in the glass cell in which Kallen then put hers where Kanji's hand is.

After hearing an incident at the train station, Kenjie appeared in the scene to help on the evacuation and the security asisting him and was told by Suzaku to keep Shirley safe as he goes into the building. Kanji then witnessed Rolo shooting Shirley that led to her death in which Kanji kept a secret due to it possibly putting Lelouch out of his mind and end up killing Rolo. Kanji is later shown at Shirley's funeral right after everyone left, excluding Milly and Rivalz, and saying sorry at her grave for her death. In the aftermath of Shirley's death, where he then revealed to Milly and Rivalz his true identity and the truth off him being a soldier and the Knight of Thirteen. Suzaku then investigates Shirley's supposed suicide and comes to the conclusion that Lelouch murdered her, which Kanji refused as true with him saying that Suzaku doesn't have enough evidence to support his conclusion, where Suzaku then refused to listen. Suzaku decides to question Kallen about Zero's true identity, threatening to use Refrain if she does not cooperate while Kanji watches from a distance. Kallen then refuses to cooperate, but Suzaku does not use the Refrain, realizing that by doing so he would be no better than Lelouch and that Kanji might become angered. She beats Suzaku up severely during their next meeting in retaliation, which he does not fight back. Frustrated, Suzaku then goes to confront Lelouch personally and discovers that the Intelligence Agency is under the effect of Geass, confirming that Lelouch has regained his memories. Kanji then stayed with Kallen once again as her guard in her cell.

After hearing the news about the Emperor's disappearance, Kanji spent the time to go to a classified location that only the Emperor and V.V. can enter, where he learned almost everything about the Geass from its history and its abilities. He also managed to learn how to reverse the effects of the Geass, where he can use it as a boost for himself.

During the second battle of Tokyo, Suzaku threatens to use the F.L.E.I.J.A. bomb where he fought with Jeremiah and Guilford. While this is happening, Kanji appeared as Wesker where he then set Kallen free and escorting her to the Guren, which was improvised. As Kallen was leaving to where Lelouch and Suzaku are, He then sprints to the room where his newly upgraded Kassius was located right after removing his disguise and later going to the battlefield by following where the Lancelot was located and where Guren was heading to. Suzaku is then forced to battle Kallen in her improved Guren, even though Lloyd advises him to flee Suzaku insists on dealing with Zero. As Kallen was ready to finish off Suzaku under Lelouch's order due to their broken trust. Kanji intervenes with his upgraded Kassius and protects Suzaku without engaging at Kallen. Suzaku's Geass command then activates and forces him to use the F.L.E.I.J.A. bomb. Kanji being alarmed of this pushes Kallen away and the bomb instead hits the government complex, wiping out the entire government building and most of the surrounding area. As Kanji appeared to be severely wounded, in which he has decided that if the two sides of Area 11 cannot work together as one and bring balance to everyone's rights, he has to take manner into his own hands. With his decision being clear, he contacts Ohgi and later sends his coordinates, deciding on reinstating himself with the Kyoto Group and joining the Black Knights officialy where the Britannian Knights were soon left to believe that he is deceased, not knowing that he hid from the shadows and faked his own death.

As he met up with Ohgi and Zero as the new member of the Black Knights, he was welcomed by Zero by his alias "Kenjie Monaco", in which Kanji soon replied to use his real name. The two then talked privately and that Lelouch is willing to reveal his true identity to the Black Knights as long as he will have Kanji's assistance, knowing that Kallen will soon return. He was then given a Geass ability that is similar to Suzaku's, which eventually developed and transformed into his ability of "Premonition" where he can think of a conclusion or plan with the process of seeing the problem with his own eyes as it is still happening in front of him.

He then soon attended for the aid of C.C., who lost her memories, by giving her pizza and resulted to him opening with C.C. about his true self due to C.C. seeing him as a good person who's been through too much pain, in which then he managed to implant a Geass command, due to the Geass ability given to him by Lelouch's Geass.

After the revelation of Lelouch being Zero and Kallen failing to convince the Black Knights, he uses his Knightmare Cassius to give Kallen cover as the Black Knights fired back at Lelouch as Rolo was helping him escape. Afterwards, he met up with Schneizel where he was put into gunpoint by the other Knights of the Round but was assisted by Kallen and Ohgi for his own protection. Right after their confrontation. He says to Kallen that he has to go help Suzaku, knowing that he won't last long by himself. He then promised to Kallen that he will bring Lelouch back alive at all cost. He then left to Kaminejima with the Cassius to complete his promise and help Suzaku. As Suzaku attempts to get revenge by trying to kill the Emperor but was derailed by the Knight of One. Kanji would soon appear with his Knightmare, Cassius to help Suzaku in fighting the Knight of One, even with the knowledge that he won't stand a chance against Bismarck.

When Lelouch attacks the island, Kanji and Suzaku then attempted to find Lelouch, only to have the ground knocked out from under them by a stray blast. They were recovered by Anya, who is next to Suzaku, and C.C., who's aiding Kanji. Kanji then enters the Sword of Akasha with C.C. and Suzaku who were told that Charles is already immortal, and looks on as Lelouch defeats his parents and stops Ragnarök. He thinks about taking revenge for the justice of his parents' death and the Japanese that have suffered under his command right after. however Lelouch tells them that nothing is unforgivable.

The time shift one month later reveals that he was one half of the duo known as the Knights of Zero along with his brother-at arms, Suzaku and under his trusting friend Lelouch vi Britannia, the 99th Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire, which left the Black Knights and the Knights of the Round shocked, with Kallen questioning why Kanji would do such an act.

When four of the remaining Knights of the Round attempt to remove Lelouch from power, Suzaku and Kanji battles them. With the new Lancelot Albion and Cassius Alpha where they easily defeat and kill all of them, with Kanji sparing only Gino's life asking what he should be fighting for, and that everything around him doesn't run with only protecting Britannia. They later assist Lelouch in taking the UFN leaders hostage. Due to him witnessing Kallen and Lelouch's "parting kiss" he was left broken and angered, due to his Geass ability accidentally activating that made him overthink. With thia anger, he takes out every guard he can find and even putting Empress Tianzi in gunpoint to make Kaguya vulnerable. This also made Kallen have the feeling of betrayal, now having the will to take Kanji back from Lelouch's influence.

As his eldest brother, Eskurante returned to Britannia, with the solemn reason of taking over after his mentor, Emperor Charles died. This makes Kanji more angered because of the reason that Eskurante was never around when their parents died. He then returned home to get his weapons from the Stadtfeld residence, where he was confronted by Kallen, asking him to stay home and not to battle his brother. With the need of getting answers from his brother, he declined this and continued to go for battle. He was then stopped by Kallen by grabbing his hand wanting to help him, due to her not wanting to lose Kanji again. This left Kanji answer that she already did due to him witnessing the parting kiss Lelouch and she had earlier, and left Kallen saddened and worried.

As he managed to sneak his way into Eskurante's aircraft, he witnesses the confrontation between Lelouch and Eskurante. He then soon over for Lelouch as he got knocked out. He was then quickly being pummeled down by his own brother, due to him not being able to clear his head from the memory of the parting kiss that clouded his mind, and with Eskurante having more experience in fighting. After he notices Kanji's being vulnerable, he takes it as an advantage to brainwash Kanji, with the thought of him not being able to protect their parents and even managing to know the kiss that has been borthering him. This ultimately leads to Kanji's breaking point in which he believed his brother is right. Right after he managed to evacuate Lelouch from the aircraft, he stomps Lelouch and began putting him in gunpoint, where he then stares at the Guren. He then alligns himself with his brother afterwards . Kallen was later seen trying to catch up with the aircraft, wanting to take Kanji back, but was soon taken down by a brainwashed Kanji himself.

As he stayed with Eskurante, he was put into torture, with him actually agreeing to it. Where Eskurante has the plan to reawaken the implanted cursed Sigil in him that was caused by V.V. And Charles, for "Tyrant Ragnarok" to resurface. With the doubt of losing himself, he wanted to deny to continue the electrocution of his brain, but was soon reversed when Eskurante talks about a woman and a man falling in love with one of them being together with someone else. Which triggered his memory of the parting kiss once again that made him agree. Kanji then loses the memory of his humanity for a while due to the electrocution. With this, "Tyrant Ragnarok" is resurrected.

He soon appeared in the battlefield as the rampaging Tyrant when Lelouch and Kallen's temporary alliance to rescue Kanji began to take over the battlefield. As he began to take each and everyone from the ground one by one, He seemed to become angrier as he sees Lelouch and the Guren.

This leaves him killing everyone on the ground, including the elite force sent by the UFN. This left Kallen shocked, due to Eskurante revealing that her actions were responsible for Kanji becoming rouge. He then returned to the aircraft to try and defend his brother. He was soon put into battle against Suzaku, who escorted Lelouch into the aircraft, where Kanji was left wounded when he began to have a mental struggle from his consciousness and the sigil, that was coming from his uncontrollable anger. Kanji then falls down unconscious from the aircraft where he was saved by Kallen and taken to a hidden compartment of the aircraft.

This is where the two began to have a personal conversation, with Kanji willing to give up Kallen for her own happiness, believing that she chooses Lelouch to be with. In which he asked to be left behind and for Kallen to "go help the one she truly loves" and she then disappeared from the shadows. She quickly returned to him, tearing up, with her believing that it was her fault this happened and that Kanji almost died twice to protect her, that she never showed how much she loved him and not acknowledging the sacrifices he made for her and their relationship.

They were then sent to one another's memories, due to C.C.'s Geass command that was implanted at Kanji. They then share the memory of a day they were at the school grounds at a junior prom, the two were seen to be happy together and the two danced together happily, where the day the two of them had heartbeats that are on sync. This then fades away with them talking that their feelings for each other were never lies and that they stayed true to them, even with them being seperated for a long time. Where the two then replace their younger selves and they dance inside the same memory. Where the Geass command then ends up with the two having synchronized heartbeats, two hearts becoming one. They are then seen to have awoken kissing, which was their first.

The two then managed to escape together by fending off Eskurante's guards, trying to get to the Guren. He then fluked Kallen for them to escape together but Kanji then pushed her in, saying that his work isn't finished and proceeded to go intervene with Lelouch and Eskurante's battle. When he reached the control room, he managed to stop the two when he stopped the collision of their swords, with one sword making his hand bleed due to him catching it, and the other managing to hit him in his left shoulder. With the help of Lelouch, he managed to defeat Eskurante. He then proceeded to set him free because if he kills him, he would be nothing more like his superiors, how they order to remove or kill a certain person for their selfishness and power. The aircraft soon landed with Lelouch managing to escape from a pod inside the aircraft. Lelouch proceeds to dissolve the alliance he made with Kallen and planned to execute them. Kanji, as "Tyrant Ragnarok", tries to eliminate Lelouch's soldiers one by one, giving the chance for Kallen and the others to escape. He eliminates them quickly but was then taken out by gunfire managing to hit him critically where he was presumed dead, that left a helpless Kallen crying while Ohgi takes her for retreat.

Suzaku then arranged a private meeting with Kallen, Suzaku revealed that he wasn't the one who wanted to meet her. Kallen was then furious due to him being a part of Lelouch's army and being apart of Kanji's death. This then made Kanji appear out of the shadows, back as a Knight of Zero, where he then shared a moment with Kallen after knowing that he is alive. Kanji then explained to Kallen that he has to help Lelouch till the end, that it has a deep reason, and that he was responsible for him being able to survive the onslaught he received from his troops. Kallen then understood this and vowed that she will take back Kanji from Lelouch's influence no matter what.

Following the controversy of Eskurante's attack and disappearance, another meeting with the UFN was arranged, with Lelouch attending, now with no Knightmares or guards to be seen or around. This was revealed to be a trap due to the destruction of Pendragon by Schneizel and the revelation that Nunnally is alive, and declares him, Suzaku and Lelouch as her enemies. Which left them stunned.

Despite Lelouch's concern for Nunnally, Suzaku insists that their objective has not changed. He tells C.C. that he and Kanji are Lelouch's swords, and will remove his enemies and even his own weaknesses and ask C.C. to be his shield since they are accomplices. They attack the Black Knights to prevent them from reaching the Avalon, but were too late. Soon after, Kanji and Suzaku comes out victorious defeating Gino, but Gino's last attack opens the shields and allows Kallen to take over. Suzaku then fights Kallen to a standstill with Kanji trying to seperate the two from managing to destroy their Knightmares, that may lead to their death. Suzaku's Lancelot Albion eventually takes a blow to the chest which causes his Knightmare to explode while Kallen loses consciousness. Kanji soon helps Kallen and Gino to return to their base and is willing to surrender. As they reach the headquarters, Kanji was put into gunpoint by everyone present except Gino, Ohgi and Kallen, with Kallen trying to convince everyone that Kanji has surrendered. Right after Lelouch's proclamation of taking over Britannia and having the Damocles and the F.L.E.I.J.A under his arsenal, Everyone was arrested and sentenced to be executed except Kanji, who is still aligned with Lelouch. He then tries to seperate the soldiers from arresting Kallen but failed to do so.

As he was inside Kallen's cell, Kanji managed to enter with the permission of Lelouch. He then explained Lelouch's plan ever since he became the Emperor, The Zero Requiem, that everything was planned with Kallen and the others being participants of it. He also explained how Suzaku is believed to have died in the blast, but will later show up as the new Zero to kill Lelouch, where he then revealed that he actually had a suit that is inside of his Knightmare that was used as a camouflage to avoid being noticed or seen, he was also using the ability given to him by Lelouch's geass, allowing Kanji to have the capability to move quickly and have strong senses also revealing that he left his earpie, which was used to control the Race inside his knightmare that he used as a microphone to be able to communicate through his Knightmare that he programmed to have autopilot, now the tyrannical Emperor of the world as part of their plan for world peace. As the ceremony of the execution began and before Suzaku (now as Zero) managed to kill Lelouch, he was confronted by Kanji and fought, with the two knowing it as a publicity stunt, that ends with Suzaku stabbing Kanji in his right shoulder, complete with Kanji's permission. With the Zero Requiem complete, Kanji weeps silently, laying on the ground, as Lelouch dies. Right after Suzaku accepted the Geass given to him by Lelouch, which led to Kanji also acquired the Geass ability he already has for himself but now being able to be activated for his own personal will. Right after Lelouch's passing, He stood up releasing Kallen from captivity but fell down from how severly he got stabbed but was then helped by Kallen to escape.

In Turn 25.01, Kanji is seen in a cliff in his motorcycle looking at the sun and reflecting the memories he had with Lelouch and C.C. He then leaves in his motorcycle and was later seen with Kallen in a train station, where she is about to return to Ashford Academy. He then offers her a ride to school where he then insisted due to Kallen being saddened that their relationship may be shattered but Kanji then responded with a smile which made Kallen sigh for relief. It then ends with the two riding off.

Third Archive: Zero: Defender of the Empress[]

He first appeared as a spectator with Suzaku, as Zero, training new Knights. After Zero lost to a cocky knight, because he was thinking about Euphie, Kanji notices this and the knight's attitude, saying that Zero has been becoming "rusty with fighting," that he has been thinking about a lot of important things. Kanji then takes over and challenges the Knight, who was saying that he is better than the members of the Defenders of the Roundtable, he would begin with one hand but getting knocked down by the knight which made him even more overconfident. Not knowing he was completely holding back, Kanji would reveal his other hand, which is completely bandaged up. he would proceed to fight with two hands, in which he showed No Mercy and easily defeats him, leaving the Knights in awe, embarrased and shaking in fear. He would then proceed to stomp on the knight's head, pinning him down, and later putting him at gunpoint. The knight would proceed to wine and begs for mercy. Kanji, would later load the gun and reveal the known two rules that a Knight and a Soldier should remember: Never hold back in the battlefield and to Never Show Mercy on your Opponent. He would later express that he is the weakest of all the members of the Defenders and that Zero is stronger than what he has shown. Other knights would later have the privilege to fight Kanji but each of them fails in the end eventually. It was here where Zero would then encouraged the Knights to train more and will be tested once again when they receive advanced training.

As they reached their barracks, Kanji and Suzaku would have a conversation about what is clouding Suzaku's mind, in which he truthfully revealed that he was thinking about Euphemia and the moment that he saw her again the in the R.R.P Recovery Center. It is here that Kanji would tell him that she will return when she is all cleared out, which is sooner than later. The two would then continue their conversation as Kanji would then leave soon after due to his mission being sent to him needed to be accomplished. He soon revealed that a Rebelling military group has been causing chaos on every country, which is leaving the UFN responsible for the lack of protection.

Later on, Kanji is seen in a classified island where he is about to make his way into E.U., where he is assigned to rendezvous with the military commander awaiting him for his private mission. He is confronted by a group of rebels, who are members of the global rebellion that Suzaku told him that troubled the Nations who are members of the UFN; whom were also responsible on the disappearance of the military personnel he was meant to meet up with. He would put up a fight against those 50 soldiers that are approaching him, as they are trying to capture him and gather information from him. As he is successful to defeat 50 soldiers, he is confronted by what seemed to be 2 knights of the leader of the rebellion. He is then seen to be tempted to fight, as he isn't thinking to rest or even be captured. He managed to quickly defeat them by using his geass ability, Momentuminfinity, as they are able to bring up a fight and managed to bring him down and believed he was going to die if he didn't resort into using his geass ability. After the battle, Kanji is seen to be very tired and wounded, as he is seen to have been put to his limits, he is deciding to continue his voyage to the E.U., even if he is going to pass out with the cuts and bruises he received. He is then later seen to be shocked, as his eyes began to open wide, and coughs out blood.

He is then seen to have been stabbed directly in the back, with 4 golden spikes piercing through from his back into his chest and the one bigger spike is stabbed deep inside his back. It is later revealed that those 5 spikes that stabbed Kanji were created by the Imperial Scepter with a reincarnated Julius Kingsley being responsible for the attacks made to Kanji. Julius Kingsley then lifts up his staked body up into the air and then later removing the Scepter afterwards, leading to Kanji's body being put down, where he then began to bleed through the stabbed parts of his back and chest. Kingsley would then reveal everything he has planned for the world, as he wants to rule it with anarchy, Armageddon, and wars, and that he is the leader of the rebellion he created with Emperor Charles' old and loyal army. Kanji would later begin to fade, as he is losing too much blood, which his body cannot bear. Kanji would then be left to die in the island with Kingsley and his army leaving him after the confrontation they had with him.

After the events that occurred, Kanji was marked to have died in action as the tracker that was left in his clothes has been processed to have not access of heartbeat, as it is used to locate the heart rate of an individual based on how close they are to it and whom the blood signature scanned from it.

For a long time during the entire arc, Kanji isn't mentioned as much as everyone focuses on the recent attacks of the terrorists at the different parts of the globe. Soon after, a war between the U.F.N and the terrorists would be planned and announced to the public.

In the end of the archive, Kallen would leave a dialogue explaining that there is still something lingering in her mind that should be gone, but she believed that she needs to be prepared for the time it comes back.

Fourth Archive: Vendetta of the Jikeidan Stray Dogs[]

In the beginning of the fourth archive, it is revealed by Kallen's narration that Kanji has been missing for almost 5 months, with him being last seen in continuing his assigned mission as an Agent, also as a Police Officer. Kanji reappears as "Wesker" In the middle of the archive, who's the leader of the vigilante group, the Jikeidan Stray Dogs as the Glinda Knights made a deal with the group for help because of a Rebelling Government Group is surfacing and managed to kill many of their soldiers, in which the vigilante group accepted as they do this for the right things and not for their selfishness. He was first introduced to Oldrin Zevon, then leader of the New Glinda Knights, as he and the other vigilantes managed to arrive at the base. At the same time, Kallen arrives as reinforcements sent by Nunnally, as a request made by Oldrin.

Afterwards, he and Oldrin, along with Eren, have a meeting where they create a plan on rehabilitating the facility of the AUF and even talking personally, that if they try to do something that will lead to betrayal that they won't hesitate to arrest them, due to the criminal records the members of the vigilante group, who are also marked as "most wanted", because of their actions as Japan was being taken over by Britannia as they have been responsible for many casualties. In which Wesker made sure that they're trusted. Right after this meeting, Wesker is confronted by Kallen in which the two "reunited" as he is about to leave back into their base.

The next day, he and the rest of the Stray Dogs arrive at the base of the Glinda Knights, where they plan to end the battle against the AUF. They then plan about infiltrating the control facility where Ezekiel is staying. With this, Oldrin, her elite team and the Stray Dogs make their way to the facility. As they plan to sneakily infiltrate the facility, Kallen was spotted, which lingered the soldiers to fire a missle at her. Wesker would then block the attack, which resulted to his knightmare being obliterated while it falls to the ground. Wesker managed to survive but was left severly injured, in which the soldiers took as an advantage to take him as a hostage by circling around him and tying him up. When the soldiers decided to unmask him, his Geass ability lingered and soon activated when his mask was removed which made him aggressive. He the takes the chance to eliminate all the soldiers around him, which he took out with ease due to his Geass ability. Due to his mask being destroyed, he had no choice but to reveal his voice to the Glinda Knights due to his voice box malfunctioning and the Glinda Knights managing to hack through their private communication module. When he communicated with the group, the Stray Dogs were tried to keep the navigation through their personal radars as a way to not reveal Wesker's true identity. Right after their planning on the new approach they would do, Kanji continued to battle the soldiers surrounding the facility by physical combat. Kanji is later seen again as Wesker, wearing a full body armored suit, as the rendezvous point of the group was pinpointed at the gateway they created using bombs.

As the others managed to meet at the location, Kanji appeared empty handed, with him being more bruised and his suit being torn. He then orders the Stray Dogs to commence "King's Dead" In which they infiltrate the facility by force by using brutal and destructive tactics. As Wesker's Knightmare was destroyed early, he uses the Vibromite Armor to be protected and be able to climb the building. As Oldrin and the other Glinda Knights enter the control facility, Wesker and the others stayed outside to prevent outside interference from the soldiers.

As they continue to defend the Glinda Knights from the outside, Wesker is shot by the Knightmare frames being led by Redfield which left him injured as he was directly hit at his left shoulder. He would then be protected by Kallen, who was fueled up due to what happened to Kanji. As Kallen managed to take out the Knightmares, Kallen would trap Wesker, who is masked and his identity still unknown, and wants Wesker to reveal who he truly is. Wesker would then fire homing missiles from his broken down knightmare to distract the Guren, which he fired below his mask, and try to escape in silence. Kallen would then use the Guren to stop him but fails due to Wesker using his Geass ability to escape.

After he managed to escape Kallen, he tried to enter the facility but notices Redfield leaving his Knightmare and going to a nuclear facility near the base. He would then folow him, thinking that he would intervene the Glinda Knights' attack. Inside the nuclear facility, he and Redfield began to have a gunfest in which the two would then try to bend their bullets by using their agilities to hit each other right after Redfield revealed that he will be willing to kill everyone in the facility, including himself. In the end, Kanji managed to hit Redfield in his kneecaps, limping him, but Wesker was left severely wounded because of the recoil of Redfield 's bullets. Oldrin and the other Glinda Knights managed to defeat Ezekiel and complete their mission. As Wesker, after removing his mask revealing his true face, was leaving the nuclear facility, he passes out due to the wounds and injuries he sustained. As his identity was exposed, he would be swarmed by the other Stray Dogs to cover his face. When he awoke in the night to go out in the rain with his identity exposed, he would see Kallen follow him to the rooftop. He would notice that she was unsure that he was Kanji, he would stay in silence staring at her while she is begging and trying to talk to him about the truth. As Kanji would hear her words since they last met, his tears would flow and be camouflaged by the heavy rain. As he noticed Kallen passed out near the door, and even say how sorry he is for making her suffer like that, he would take her into his room where she would sleep - even respectfully removing and drying her clothes and giving his cloak as a substitute.

When dawn came, he is seen in the rooftop where he then decided to leave early before Kallen managed to wake up. As he managed to wear his evasion gear, he approaches Oldrin before leaving and exposes his true identity to her. He would then explain how he is not the original leader of the Stray Dogs and that it was his twin brother Orpheus. He would also tell the story how he and Orpheus met and how he was the first one who voluntarily decided to fight for Japan as children. He would then leave his position as the leader of the Jikeidan Stray Dogs and give it to Oldrin, as he believes that Oldrin will do the right thing and use them for a good cause as Orpheus did.

With this, he would silently leave the base going in the route of a desert, directly into an isolated forest located at the border of Britannia. Kanji is later seen in the end of the archive on a motorcycle, watching the aircraft Kallen took back to Empress Nunnally where he would then follow it.

Decode 327BR9 - Your Own Law[]

The personal archive of Kanji Kyoshigaki would start with the continuation of the fourth archive's ending where Kanji, riding on the motorcycle, is continually following the aircraft Kallen was at from the previous archive. Later on, Kanji would diverge from the aircraft following his own track leading to the unknown. As he was riding he would hit a body of water and the story would flash back from the day he was getting his body hidden deep below the ocean after being impaled by Julius Kingsley. As he was going deep below the ocean, he would wake up for a short while and would decide to remove the sensor in his wrist in order to prevent Kingsley and his troops from coming back and possibly taking him as a hostage, as Kingsley believes that he would die within a minute.

After he removed his body sensor using a rusted blade stabbed in his hip, he would immediately inject himself with a Tetrodotoxin shot in order to hide his heartbeat by slowing down the beat of his heart as well as extract the Oxygen present in the water and encapsulate it in his lungs to lower the chance of him drowning. With the success of him applying these precautions, he would pass out once again.

His body would wash off in a cold mountain side. Less than an hour of his unconscious body fighting the coldness, a fisherman would find him and takes him back to an unknown but bountiful country.

His body would be carried by the fisherman into the city he resides through his fishing storage. Kanji would be brought into the presence of the King of the unknown nation hidden from the various Empires of the world. Kanji, through the decision of the prince, would be send into incarceration in an area where he would be submerged into a highly viscous healing pond and monitored by various guards due to him being considered as a threat to the nation's national security.

It would take 3 weeks before Kanji would wake up from his injuries. When he woke up, he would struggle to get out of the material and when he managed to raise his head and his upper body, he would look back-to-back to the guards who were guarding him. He would proceed to fight them and end up stunning them at a point in order to find a way to escape. But when he managed to escape the facility, he would look around and notice the unfamiliarity on the area and doesn't have an idea where to run to. He would soon notice that he was being chased by guards from a distance. He would jump down from the bridge he was standing and try to evade the guards up to a point they would lose sight of him.

After he sensed that the guards have lost sight on him, he would proceed to go around the town wearing a cloth cover himself. Despite being against his will, he would continue to steal from various materials to provide for his needs to defend and protect himself. Later on, he would reach the deserted area of the nation to try and move to the next city he may discover. During his escape, he would somehow hit a wall, which is not visible to the eye, in the middle of the forest. As he would open his eyes, he would notice a field starting from the point he hit doing up to the surface and reaching the highest tower of the city, which is also the control area and the king's residence. Knowing that it could be a warning to the higher ups of the nation, he would try to flee away from his location; as well as prepare for battle.

As night came, various soldiers were assigned to various routes as they are considering Kanji as a possible threat to their national security. Kanji would start attacking these soldiers in a stealthy way in order to reach what he believed was one of the aircraft carriers owned by this "unknown land." as it was able to go pass through the barriers of the area. As he would reach the fleet, he would be face-to-face with Danaya, who is one of the elite soldiers. He would barely defeat her and, despite the injuries he sustained from her, tried to escape using the fleet. As he was reaching the air, he would notice that the force field was showing signs of making impact with the aircraft. As he noticed this, he would jump out of the aircraft and fall down. As he was falling down, he would be gunned down and gets shot in the right side of his chest and falls down to the water unconsciously.

As he would regain consciousness, he would notice that he is laying in a bed - and would soon realize he is in the second to the highest floors of the giant tower in the middle of the city. The door would open from the room and a man would appear named Boseman. He would reveal that he is the owner of the tower he is residing in and also reveal that he is the ruler of the hidden nation from the outer grid of Britannia - The Isle of Wakanada. Boseman would tell Kanji that he is not being held captive because of his appearance in the nation, but the fact that he fought various soldiers and guards was the reason he is imprisoned. The case regarding the danger he brings into national security would be dropped after his side would be revealed and after a lengthy background check. Because of this, Boseman would ask about who he is and what he was planning to do. Kanji would reveal everything about his recent time before he woke up, but still kept some information regarding himself and his life at Area 11 classified and off the grid from their insight.

Danaya would enter the room - talking about the issue brought upon by Kanji. But, as information about the purpose of him arriving at the nation being pure, with a simple case of an accident after his defeat in the middle of the battlefield, Boseman would let Kanji roam around the nation and even give him a tour around it. Despite the two siblings' verbal altercation, Boseman would assist Kanji around the nation.

Abilities[]

Piloting Skills & Knightmare Engineering[]

Kanji was considered as one of the best Knightmare Pilots between the Knights of the Round next to Suzaku. Kanji is known for his unique way of piloting his Knightmare. In which his Knightmare's build is very unique from the inside as he is the one who engineered the software of his Knightmare, while his brother Dante engineered the hardware and the database for the Knightmare. As seen from the way he is capable when using his Knightmares, the Knightmare is seen to move even quicker than other next gen Knightmare Frames, as he uses his senses by using a sensor by his pulse for his knightmare to move. It is also known that Kanji himself built his first knightmare, Cassius Shock W.A.V.E., in which he used a stolen blueprint of the F.L.E.I.J.A to create the arm canon and nuclear missile, which he created as a child, being apart of the Jikeidan Stray Dogs. This was later put Under Maintenance as it was very slow on movement and was bugged, in which the Key was soon given to Milly Ashford as a sacred gift where she later made into a necklace.

Battle Prowess[]

Kanji is known for his way of physical combat as he uses his agility and his body movements to defeat his enemy. Kanji was first trained by his own father, as his father is known for his background as a soldier and a knight and Sayoko, who met him as a kid bruised up from training and soon trained him, in which he learned how to use his speed and agility as a weapon.

Basing from his abilities in fighting, he is seen defeating 5 students on an encounter at a school, who were ruining Suzaku as they consider him as an Eleven and him being responsible on Prince Clovis' death.

He is even more dangerous when using his sword or a gun, as he is able to use both to his advantage, even being able to vend bullets using his speed and quick movements for them to hit a certain target at a given angle. With his sword, Kanji is known for his outstanding abilities with a sword, as he uses it either by moving or dodging defensively, turning it offensively by the way he analyzes and study his enemy.

Kanji typically fights using only his left hand with his other is placed behind his back. The reason he did this is because of how he trained with Sayoko after he was found laying in the dirt with his right arm being severely injured and fractured. His defense does not depend on blocking because of this as his leg movement and agility are mainly his key in a defensive standpoint, as well as turning defense into offense in a face-to-face combat situation.

Critical Intelligence[]

Kanji doesn't show his intelligence that often, as he only uses it for the right time. Lelouch also considered Kanji to be better at chess than him but doesn't want to as he only uses his ability to think for a better purpose. His intelligence can be desplayed on how he plan his missions as a Knight of the Round, as he is known for being able to plan ahead of time and being able to predict the possible events on the particular mission, which is displayed when he intended for retreat when Suzaku was fighting Tohdoh. This is also displayed when he managed to escape on faking his death and being able to communicate with the Black Knights without being spotted or noticed by Britannians, including when helping the Black Knights on their missions via communication or detecting close Enemy Knightmares, seen when he is helping Sayoko track and get away from the other students at Cupid Day even when he is on Route with his responsibilities as Kallen's guard and even for personal things such as when he managed to sneak in a communicator inside the dress Kallen was wearing.

Geass Ability A: Premonition[]

Kanji's Critical Intelligence is the reason on why his geass ability was put into motion. His Geass ability is directly connected to his nickname as Hannibal as his ability to predict the upcoming events are based on the actions he makes. His Premonition ability is very similar to Suzaku's geass ability, only with a few adjustments and tweaks that is affected by Kanji's artificial intelligence. With this ability, his intelligence boosts up at a whopping 10%, where his prediction and plans are sure to succeed based on the way his colleagues execute the plan with him, which is seen on how he managed to plan along with the Zero Requiem.

Geass Ability B: Momentuminfinity (Cerebral Reflexive Order)[]

This Geass Ability took form since Lelouch activated it to control the Ragnarok Sigil (Ragnarok's Curse Mark) implanted inside Kanji, since it was untamed and may cause Kanji to wreak havoc once again if not sealed. As time passes, Kanji managed to put the Geass Ability and the Sigil to be put into harmony that led him to have another ability into his repertoire and arsenal. This ability was the reason why he managed to save Suzaku from the exploding Lancelot Albion in a nick of time. With the use of his senses, he is able to move as fast as the delivery of information from his brain to grant the order given to the body, which is harmonic to his Premonition abliity as his brain processes much faster than a regular person. There are sacrifices to maintain his ability, as he needs to maintain, and even improve, his cardiovascular capabilities, which aditionally includes his speed and agility.

Trivia[]

  • It is revealed that the name of his alter ego "Wesker" was given to him by Ohgi. With "Wesker" representing the formality and conformity of life he needs to follow to hide his past for the sake of his parents.
  • Kanji is uncomfortable when he sees Kallen revealing too much skin, as he treats her as prestigious and that someone like her deserves to be treated and respected in a way that he treats someone who's family and someone who's more important than his own life.

Character Development[]

  • The character "Kanji Kyoshigaki" was inspired by the author's liking of the anime "Dragon Ball" and "Naruto". In which the first name of the character was inspired by Alejandro Saab himself as "Kaggy" with his last name being inspired by the character of "Kisame Hoshigaki"
  • The design of Kanji was inspired by the author's former skin from a known mobile/ computer game, which he then started to develop from scratch back when he was at Seventh Grade, after managing to watch and repeat Code Geass again after 4 years.
  • The personality of being "secretive" and "silent" was inspired by Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto, the second anime the author discovered and managed to finish.
