The Type-11/5G Raikou was a 4th-generation Knightmare Frame originally created by the defunct Japanese Liberation Front using Glasgow frames as a base. In TNB, the frame's design is widely spread throughout the black market and is used for terrorist acts by various anti-government organizations.

Appearance[]

The same as the original in the anime. The coloring varies depending on the group.

Description[]

The Raikou is essentially a massive coilgun built from four reconstructed Glasgows. It fires a high velocity shell which releases two-dozen steel ball bearings that can tear through Knightmare Frames, as well as most other targets with ease. The four Knightmares are arranged along both sides of the cannon for support, and their heads are attached to a circular disc on the top of the cannon for a 360 degree field of view. The cockpits of the two Knightmares on each side are linked to create a two-seater cockpit.

In addition to the main cannon, the arm on the open side of each Knightmare is replaced with a linkable cannon, creating four secondary cannons in case the main cannon fails to destroy the target.

Armaments[]

  • Slash Harken
The Slash Harken is the signature weapon of the Knightmare Frame, and is used by almost all KMF models. Originally introduced on the RPI-11 Glasgow, the Harkens are wire-guided projectiles with some form of anchor-like blunt object at its tip. They can be used in multiple ways varying from offensive to defensive, or as a means of transportation via anchoring them in an object, and retracting the cable. The Raikou is equipped with two Slash Harkens stored in its chest on each of the repurposed Glasgow frames.
  • Super Electromagnetic Shrapnel Cannon
The cannon is a massive coilgun which fires fire velocity shell, which then releases two-dozen bearings. The shells are so fast and many that they can instantly destroy any Knightmare Frame that comes into its path. However, the cannon is meant only as a heavy siege weapon and is ineffective against mobile enemies, especially newer 7th-generation frames, which have the mobility to dodge properly.
  • Free-Fire Arm Guns
Basic cannons which have replaced the original arms on the Glagow frames.

History[]

In order to even the fight against the Britannian Army and its Knightmare Frames, the Japanese Liberation Front created the Raikou using Glasgows they had managed to seceretly obtain after the Invasion of Japan. Only two were ever fielded during the Japanese rebellion against Britannia; the first during the JLF's hostage-taking operation at Kawaguchi Lake hotel, and the second during the Black Rebellion by the Black Knights. In both cases, however, the units were destroyed by Kururugi Suzaku in the Lancelot.

After Britannia's entrance into the UFN, however, the designs for the Raikou were sold on the black market by enterprising former members of the JLF, and many terrorist groups came to construct new Raikou units using old Glasgow and Sutherland parts.
