The Somerset is a knightmare frame developed by the Britannian Empire and utilized by the terrorist force Wings of Talleyrand in Code Geass Megiddo.

Appearance[]

Its original incarnation, no design changes made. Originally painted in Britannian blue, the Wings of Talleyrand units are repainted in white.

Description[]

Another product of the "Missing" Sixth Generation, the Somerset was built around yet another abstract concept: the flight capable Knightmare Frame. Using the MR-1 as the base, the Somerset accomplished flight by transforming into an aerodynamic "Fortress Mode" form. In theory - if not so much in practice - this form would grant the Somerset the speed and maneuverability of a fighter jet, while also retaining ability to transform back into its ground-based "Knightmare Mode". Because of this specialization, the Somerset was lightly equipped, only possessing two built-in machine guns in its arms and two standard chest-mounted Slash Harkens.

History[]

Though a promising concept at the time, the Somerset proved to be a rather lackluster design, holding neither the ground capabilities of a standard Knightmare Frame nor the airborne capabilities of a dedicated fighter jet. Thus like so many others of its generation, the program was eventually scrapped. On the other hand, the demand for a flight capable Knightmare would linger for somewhat longer, eventually culminating in Float System equipped units, namely the Gawain and the Lancelot Air Cavalry. Unfortunately the high power demands of the Float System, combined with the still superior capabilities of dedicated aircraft, would result in this program being cancelled as well, the Knightmare Frame remaining an entirely terrestrial weapon thereafter.

Even so, this would not be the last of the Somerset. Following the Devastation of Japan, the Wings of Talleyrand, a terrorist force formed and led by former Britannian aeronautics engineer Wilbur Millville, would acquire the mothballed prototypes and utilize them to raid Pendragon, their intent to assassinate Emperor Charles and as much of the Imperial family as possible. Through this however, the Somerset's flaws would become grossly apparent, resulting in the Wings of Talleyrand being wiped out to the last between the Imperial Army's own Knightmare Frames and the Imperial Air Force's air superiority fighters. Any further interest in the flight-capable Knightmare Frame, whether from Britannia or other nations, was effectively dispelled from then on.
