The Yamakaze (Japanese for "Mountain Wind") is an VTOL gunship utilized by the Order of the Black Knights in Code Geass Megiddo.

Appearance[]

General design is that of the AH-64D Apache Longbow, but refined for the Code Geass setting. As it is a VTOL, it lacks helicopter rotors (as well as the ubiquitous Longbow radar radome), but otherwise falls in line with the rest of its basis. It is normally colored in its host organization's black.

Design[]

A replication of the Britannian Viper, the Yamakaze was, similar to its basis, meant to engage ground targets as well as provide fire support for allied units (such as knightmares). As a result, it strays little from its parent in design, being a ruggedly effective VTOL that can be utilized in virtually any environment and scenario.

Heavily armed, armored yet fast and highly maneuverable, the Yamakaze was an effective craft and a difficult opponent to face for most ground fighters (once agan including knightmares). Its primary armament is the mounted autocannon underneath its "nose", which is capable of shredding tank-level armor in a single burst. This in turn is supplemented by four mounted hardpoints (two on each wing stub), which can hold a variety of ordinance, from missiles to rocket pods to various tactical equipment. Combined with advanced avionics and targeting sensors, the Yamakaze has well proven itself to be an efficient killer, as well as more than a match for its Britannian (and Eurasian) contemporaries.

As a secondary function, Yamakazes can also be utilized to transport knightmare frames on and off the field. Though not as efficient in this role as the Hayabusa VTOL drone, it remains capable enough, such that Black Knight commanders have been known to utilize it for such when there are no Hayabusas or Tamashi transports otherwise available.

History[]

The Yamakaze's first deployment would take place during the latter half of the Battle of Xiaopei, in which gunships from the Izumo would be deployed to support Black Knight and Chinese ground forces (while also dogfighting with their Britannian opposites) as the two groups retreated from pursuing forces. Though Xiaopei would prove to be a pyrrhic victory all around, this would have little bearing on the craft's service record as it would soon be utilized the whole of the Red Rebellion, once more in support of allied ground forces throughout the span of Area 22 (an offensive that would prove far more successful).
